Citing Archival Materials

The unpublished nature of archival materials as well as their variety in type can pose challenges in source documentation. 
Typically, the following information is expected for archival materials:
  • title of item
  • date of the item
  • file name
  • identification of location (include the name and numbers of record groups, series, and subseries as applicable)
  • repository name

Typically, the citation will follow this format:
Footnote/Endnote:
           "Title of Item," Date, File Name (include file folder number if relevant). Name of Collection or Location Information, Repository Name.

Bibliographic Entry:
"Title of Item." Date. File Name (include file folder number if relevant). Name of Collection or Location Information. Repository Name.
