Have you heard stories of the Fjelstad ghost, Dolly? Well, before she was known as a beloved Concordia ghost, Dolly was a Concordia student.
Dolorita (Dolly) Larson was born in New Richmond, Wisconsin May 31, 1932. She graduated as an honor student from Canby high school in 1950. At Concordia, Dolly had been a member of the Lutheran League, the church choir, the Lutheran Student organization, the Lutheran Girls society and Concordia College Band. She was an average Concordia student, but for Dolly, the stresses of college life got to be too much and eventually resulted in her mental collapse and suicide.
Dolly lived in Fjelstad and died in her room. Since her death, many residents of Fjelstad have claimed to experience Dolly's presence in the dorm hall. Haley Anderson, current student and past Fjelstad resident, claims to have had several experiences with the ghost of Dolly during the time she lived in the dorm.
"I was a freshman living on 2nd floor South Fjelstad when I first experienced Dolly's ghost," said Anderson.
According to Anderson, Dolly is notorious for messing with technology.
"I would be sitting in my room and all the sudden the TV or PlayStation would turn on," she said. "One time I had left my laptop open on my desk after I was watching a video online. My laptop had fallen asleep, but it was randomly woken up and then the video I was watching began to play without anyone touching it. I wasn't in the room at the time this happened, but my roommate was and told me all about it when I returned!"
Anderson also added that sometimes she would hear footsteps or door knobs jiggle out in the hall. When she would look down the hall to see who it was, she wouldn't find anyone there. According to Anderson, Dolly would even make her presence known in the bathrooms by randomly opening and closing bathroom stall doors.
When asked on whether or not she was scared of Dolly, Anderson replied, "Not really. It's more of a cool experience if anything. Dolly doesn't do us any harm. She's a friendly ghost."
